House of Vegano: Tampa Bay’s Vegan Sushi Queen Is Serving More Than Rolls, She’s Serving Purpose
You know I don’t play when it comes to food, and when I say this next spot is a whole vibe, I mean it. If you’ve been craving sushi without the side of guilt (or animal products), let me introduce you to a plant-based powerhouse that’s making major waves in the Bay.
Welcome to House of Vegano, where the sushi is vegan, the story is soul-deep, and the vibes are unmatched.
Meet the Boss Behind the Rolls
Thalia Tatham didn’t just start a restaurant, she started a movement. After being diagnosed with lupus, she turned to a plant-based lifestyle to help manage her health. But baby, she didn’t stop at salads. She took her love of sushi, added a dash of resilience, and rolled it all up into what would become Tampa Bay’s first all-vegan sushi house. (Y’all, that’s what I call turning pain into purpose.)
What started in a shared kitchen is now a thriving Black-owned business with its own beautiful space on Central Avenue in St. Pete. Come on, elevation!
What’s On the Plate? Magic.
This ain’t your basic veggie roll situation. House of Vegano is flipping the script on traditional sushi—think Lion’s Mane mushrooms instead of crab, spicy vegan “krab” rolls that hit just right, and dumplings that deserve their own spotlight.
Here’s what to order when you pull up:
Volcano Roll – Spicy, savory, and stacked with flavor.
Tom Kha Ramen – Thai-inspired and soul-warming.
Vegan Tiramisu – Yes, dessert is included in your healing, sis.
And don’t get it twisted—non-vegans are OBSESSED too. She’s converting folks one chopstick at a time. 🥢🔥
Culture on the Walls, Love in the Air
The space is giving modern, art-forward, and unapologetically inclusive. From murals honoring icons like Frida Kahlo to the subtle nod to 80s ballroom culture in the name “House of Vegano,” every corner of this restaurant tells a story. It's a safe space. A healing space. And most of all, a flavor space.
